Rovereto Wind Orchestra
The Rovereto Wind Orchestra was founded in 1997 as a school band of the "Liceo Antonio Rosmini" in Rovereto under the direction of Maestro Andrea Loss.
Both the number of orchestra members and the musical level grew, gradually including players from the province of Trento and the surrounding regions of northern Italy. In 2015 the Wind Orchestra decided to officially change its name, remaining faithful to its origins in the city of Rovereto.
In the last 20 years the Wind Orchestra has carried out a significant number of collaborations and concerts under the direction of important guest conductors from all over the world - Henrie Adams, Douglas Bostock, José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana, Laszlo Marosi, Ronald Johnson, Roger Bobo, Bert Appermont and Miguel Etchegoncelay, as well as participating in various musical meetings, festivals and competitions throughout Europe.
In addition, the orchestra has won several awards at prestigious national and international music competitions, including Flicorno d'Oro in Riva del Garda, the Italian National Competition in Bertiolo, Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Vallé d'Aoste International Competition, the Certamen Internacional de Bandas in Valencia, Spain, and the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, the Netherlands.
In June 2016, the Orchestra had the honour of presenting the Italian premiere of the First Symphony of the Swiss composer Franco Cesarini op. 50 "The Archangels" at the Florence Opera House as part of the 79th concert season in Florentine May. In July of the same year, the orchestra performed for the second time at the International Festival Mid Europe in Schladming (Austria), after having been invited to the final concert.
In July 2017 the Wind Orchestra took part in the World Music Competition in Kerkrade in the highest concert category and won the gold medal in four consecutive editions of the competition. On this occasion the orchestra performed with the soloist Alessandro Fossi, tuba teacher at the conservatories of Pesaro and Bolzano, with whom they also recorded a CD of Italian tuba concertos.
In November 2018 the Rovereto Wind Orchestra had the honour of accompanying Alfredo Persichilli, first cellist of the Orchestra del Teatro and Filarmonica della Scala, and in April 2019 Franco Cesarini played the Italian premiere of the Second Symphony "Views of Edo" at the Milan Conservatory in Sala Verdi. The Rovereto Wind Orchestra was selected for the WASBE 2019 conference in Buñol, Spain to premiere two new pieces, including one with the well-known euphonium soloist Steven Mead as guest artist.
